  • Resonance is a close-range thrusting attack against an adversary whose damage rises in proportion to the number of attacks that were activated by Chain Skills on the previous round

Puttering around on the third floor, at level 10 or such. It is necessary for me to watch after my Masurao because it has a proclivity to be one-shot by any significant hit. After spreading myself too thin instead of bum rushing to level 5 a “bread and butter” skill, I think I’ve screwed up my early character progression. However, with a few more levels, I think I’ll be able to fix it, and I’m getting to the point where I’m becoming more comfortable with dungeon diving for longer periods of time.

My choice of blademaster over the multi-katana Masurao is also likely to be based on my preference for survivability and stability over all-out offensive might.

While I’m slowly coming to terms with the dramatic shifts in the way we buy and play videogames, at my core, I still want to buy a cartridge, stick it in a console, and spend 30+ hours of my life getting stronger, working my way up to killing a big boss with spells, numbers, menus, and jars of magical concoctions. This is the aspect of gaming that makes me the happiest. Etrian Odyssey IV, developed by Atlus, has reinvigorated me over the last week with its gameplay that isn’t afraid to be a little dated.

  1. Once again, this is really refreshing.
  2. Although this is a game that I would consider to be of little appeal these days, it appears that folks in my immediate vicinity are unable to quit praising it.
  3. Atlus is the publisher.
  4. Getting lost in and finally finding your way out of an endless succession of progressively challenging dungeons is the only thing on your mind, with random-encounter turn-based combat halting you every few steps.
  5. Everyone’s attention is focused on doing all in their power to stay alive.
  6. No cutscenes or voiceovers are included with this game, and there isn’t much of a supporting cast to speak of.

It may seem weird to say, but a 3DS game has raised the standard for RPG soundtracks to an unprecedented level.

High frequencies are over-emphasized when played over the 3DS speakers, which unfortunately resulted in my experiencing ear strain while attempting to appreciate the amazing music on offer.

In previous games, your class meant everything-your stats, your race, the whole shebang.

Not all races will be equallygoodat any given class, but there are some fun synergies to be gained by occasionally playing against type.The Lineage:Nintendo DS:Rough around the edges, but they launched the franchise.

The first two aren’t bad by any means, and many of the posters in this thread owe their addiction to playing them.
