Vander West, Josephine (née Vander Gucht), Anthony Vander West (né West), and Josephine Vander West (née Vander Gucht) are siblings.

History

Vander Gucht previously worked as a solo artist, initially under her own name and subsequently under the moniker LAYLA. Before joining Oh Wonder, Vander Gucht was a solo artist. Anthony West was once a member of the bands Tonight Is Goodbye, Futures, and We the Wild, among others. Vander Gucht and West met for the first time on March 21, 2010, in High Wycombe, when West was in the crowd at one of Vander Gucht’s solo shows. Vander Gucht visited one of West’s concerts a year later, struck up a conversation with him, and the two began composing songs and creating music together.

2014–2016:Oh Wonder

Oh Wonder took an unconventional approach to the release of their eponymous debut album, Oh Wonder, which was released in 2008. Over the course of a year, the team released one new single per month, beginning on September 1, 2014. They wrote, produced, and mixed each song at their London home studio, which they also used for the album’s production. The culmination of these weekly installations was the publication of that first album in 2015, which contained two previously unheard tracks. The album peaked at number 26 on the UK Albums Chart, number 16 on the Canadian Albums Chart, and number 80 on the USBillboard200.

  • Oh Wonder has sold over one million copies worldwide (making it the first indie album to do so), and has been awarded Gold in the United Kingdom, Canada, Singapore, China, Taiwan, and Denmark, as well as Platinum in Russia and the Philippines, among other countries.
  • The band’s first television appearance was on Conan, which aired in the United States on January 20, 2016.
  • Oh Wonder has traveled extensively over the world since the publication of their debut album, including the United Kingdom, France, Belgium, Germany, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, the Netherlands, Russia, Australia, Canada, and the United States.
  • The band also performed as the opening act on the final leg of the Badlands Tour with Halsey, which took place from July 21 to August 12, 2016.

In 2017, they made their festival debut at the Electric Picnic in Stradbally, Ireland.

2016–2018:Ultralife

Announcing the completion of their second studio album, Ultralife, on March 30, 2017, Oh Wonder was one of the most anticipated bands of the year. The first single from the album, “Ultralife,” was released the following day. In the lead-up to the release of the album, the group released new singles every two weeks, much as they had done with their last album. This year, the pair embarked on the Ultralife World Tour, which took them to 34 countries spanning Asia, Australia, Europe, North and South America.

As part of Beckon’s 2018 North American Tour, they performed three gigs alongside him.

2019–2020:No One Else Can Wear Your CrownandHome Tapes

Oh Wonder released their first single off their next album, “Hallelujah,” on September 5th, followed by “Better Now,” which was released on October 25th, and “I Wish I Never Met You,” which was released on November 14th. Earlier in the day, they revealed through Twitter that their new album, titled No One Else Can Wear Your Crown, will be released on November 7th, 2018. In the following weeks, the songs “This Christmas,” “Happy,” and “In and Out of Love” were released. As part of the press publicity around their third studio album, Vander Gucht and Westand stated that they had been in a relationship for seven years prior to the announcement.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the latter portion of the tour, including the whole North American leg, was cancelled.

2021–present:22 Break

Oh Wonder released their first single off their next album, “Hallelujah,” on September 5th, followed by “Better Now” on October 25th, and “I Wish I Never Met You” on November 14th. Oh Wonder is currently on tour in support of their new album. Announcing the release date of the record, titled No One Else Can Wear Your Crown, on Twitter the same day was a big step forward for the group. The songs “This Christmas,” “Happy,” and “In and Out of Love” were released shortly thereafter. While promoting their third studio album, Vander Gucht and Westand confessed that they had been in a relationship for the previous seven years, which was covered in the media.

Due to the COVID-19 outbreak, the latter portion of the tour, including the whole North American leg, was postponed.

Oh How I Wonder – Donell Jones

If you consider sin to be your best friend, I’m referring to you specifically. It’s best to alter things around before the end comes around. Alternatively, you may dwell in Gehenna, where darkness reigns. Better open your Bibles and understand the truth about God. Because even if you have a lot of money, you’re still living on the streets. It doesn’t matter who you harm; it doesn’t matter how you acquire it. They are dying, the youngsters in the neighborhood, certainly they are. As a result of the effect of television and radio And there’s no one to blame since we were the ones who did it.

  1. Take a look at what we did to her.
  2. Terrorists are armed with nuclear weapons.
  3. Is it ever going to change?
  4. Certainly, this is something that we should take into consideration, If you’re relying on a negative mindset, I’m referring to you specifically.
  5. Man, you’re so near to Hell that you don’t know what to do.
  6. The economy is in shambles, and we’re losing our houses one by one.
  7. The system is set up to keep us all in debt for as long as possible.

And there’s no one to blame since we were the ones who did it.

Take a look at what we did to her.

Oh, the things I think about.

It is undeniable that we were born imperfectly, yet we must strive to overcome the curse anyway.

However, everyone must pay attention to their inner voice.

Yea, give it some consideration for the time. If you’re feeling anything like I am, Then you’d wonder whether anything would ever change. oh my goodness, what a questionThis is something that we should consider, yes.

‘Oh Wonder’ by Oh Wonder

For those who consider sin to be their best friend You are the one I’m referring to It’s best to change things around before the end comes around. Instead, journey to Gehenna, where darkness reigns supreme. Now is the time to open your Bibles and study the truth Because even if you have a lot of money, you can’t afford to live a luxurious lifestyle. Who you harm doesn’t matter, as long as you get your way. They are dying, the youngsters in the neighborhood, yeah. As a result of television and radio broadcasts, It’s our fault, and no one else can be held responsible.

  • Take a look at how we handled her situation.
  • You would then be perplexed.
  • Oh, the things I think about.
  • In the event that you are relying on a negative attitude, You are the one I’m referring to It’s best to change things around before the end comes around.
  • Thousands of people are losing their houses because of the economic crisis that has gripped the country.
  • Essentially, the system is set up to keep us all in financial ruin.
  • It’s our fault, and no one else can be held responsible.

Take a look at how we handled her situation.

That leads to the question, “Will anything change?” What a mystery it is.

Our faith is in God, and we all have a little piece of Adam and Eve in us, don’t we?

That we have the ability to choose is wonderful, but we must all pay attention to our own inner voices.

Just take a time to consider that, yea If you’re feeling anything like I am, please read on.

Track1: “Livewire”

If sin is your best buddy, then read on. I’m referring to you. It’s better to mix things around before the end comes around. Alternatively, you may go dwell in Gehenna, where darkness reigns. Open your Bibles and understand the truth. Because you may have a lot of money and yet be broke. It doesn’t matter who you harm; it doesn’t matter how you achieve what you want. The kids in the neighborhood, sure, they’re dying, dude. As a result of the effect of television and radio, And there’s no one to blame since we’re the ones who did it.

  • Take a look at how we handled her.
  • If you’re feeling anything like I am, read on.
  • Is there any hope for change?
  • Yes, this is something that we need to consider.
  • It’s better to mix things around before the end comes around.
  • The economy is in shambles, and we are losing our properties.
  • The system is intended to keep us all in debt.

And there’s no one to blame since we’re the ones who did it.

Take a look at how we handled her.

Then you’d start to wonder, “Will anything ever change?” How I bemoan the fact that Yes, this is something that we need to consider.

We were all born flawed, to be sure, but we must strive to break the curse, man.

However, everyone must pay attention to their inner voice.

Take a time to consider that, yea. If you’re feeling anything like I am, read on. Then you’d start to wonder, “Will anything ever change?” Oh, how I ponderThis is something that we should consider, yes.

Track2: “Body Gold”

Another love song on the album, which is a repeating subject throughout the entire album. ‘Body Gold’ is a soothing, semi-upbeat song about a love that will never go away. In a world filled with breakup songs, this song is a breath of fresh air. Essentially, being present with your partner is what it’s all about for me.

Track3: “Technicolour Beat”

(This is my personal favorite song on the album.) This song is another upbeat love song about feeling secure in the company of the person you love. It’s all about having a lot of feelings. There is so much love and happiness in the world for someone that the globe is whirling and everything is just so bright and colorful. This is a song that should absolutely be on your playlist if you’re having a good time and can’t keep it together. Also, my favorite phrase from the entire album is “I experience life for the first time,” which goes something like “love in my arms and the sun in my eyes.”

Track4: “Drive”

The first negative song on the album, despite the fact that it is still related to the concept of love. The song is about how difficult it is to love someone you care about, how no matter what they do, it is not enough for them, and how they can no longer take it anymore. It’s impossible to continue to love them. And, despite the fact that the lyrics are dismal, the music is uplifting.

Track5: “Lose It”

The fact that this was the first song I’d ever heard from Oh Wonder means that it holds a particular place in my heart. This song isn’t so much about finding someone with whom you can let go as it is about finding someone with whom you can let go. It creates the scenario for two individuals who are just having a good time dancing together, immersing themselves in the music and not thinking about anything else except for that. You don’t even have to know the person to feel something, but when you dance with them, you forget about everything else that is going on in your life and you forget about yourself.

The song is upbeat, lyrically straightforward, and incredibly catchy.

Track6: “Landslide”

Much like the last song, it’s not always apparent if this is a song about romance or not, but it is about being there for someone who is in desperate need of your help. “Landslide” is without a doubt the most uplifting song on the album and the one I’d suggest, since everyone needs a song to remind them that they are not alone, no matter what they are going through, and that is exactly what this song is conveying to us. The song, which features a pleasant production and a straightforward tempo, is exactly what you need to feel a little better.

Track7: “White Blood”

“White Blood,” one of the most contemplative tracks on the album, is about being ready to dive into a relationship with someone and relying on them to be there for you when the time comes. Despite the fact that the lyrics are repetitious, the song has a pleasant sound and is really soothing.

Track8: “Without You”

Returning to the more depressing lyrics, “Without You” is a sluggish, yet somehow uplifting song about the anticipation of seeing someone you care about.

You are mourning the loss of someone, and you are lost without them, yet you are living your life (even if you don’t want to) without them.

Track9: “The Rain”

Unfortunately, this is one of my least favorite tracks on the album. Despite the fact that I enjoy the production, the premise of the song appears unclear, and the words are far too repetitious in my opinion.

Track10: “Dazzle”

One of my least favorite tracks on the album, to be honest, and it’s a shame. However, while I enjoy the production, I believe that the song’s theme is unclear, and I believe that the words are far too repetitious to be effective.

Track11: “All We Do”

Again, the words are repeated, but there is a clear message: all they do is hide, hunt, and search for something they can’t and won’t ever have. It’s a good piece of music, but it’s a little too long in my opinion, given the repetition.

Track12: “Midnight Moon”

This song, like “Landslide,” is an inspirational song about overcoming adversity and overcoming barriers. A multitude of various instruments (including what appears to be a sitar?) are used in this lively tune. However, I might be completely incorrect), as well as a great, upbeat message. The song “Midnight Moon” is about being able to go over the moon in the face of adversity and achieve success. This is a song that everyone may listen to when they are having a horrible day.

Track13: “Shark”

This song, like “Landslide,” is an inspirational song about overcoming adversity and achieving success. A multitude of various instruments (including what appears to be a sitar?) are included in this cheerful tune. However, I might be completely incorrect), as well as a pleasant, upbeat message from the universe. A theme of “Midnight Moon” is the ability to overcome adversity and reach the moon. Anyone who is having a rough day might benefit from listening to this.

Track14: “Heart Hope”

Another upbeat tune, but with a gentler tempo than the previous one. “Heart Hope” is about want something more than what you now have in your life and realizing that in order to reach to where you want to be in your life, you must first be hopeful that you will get there.

Track15: “Plans”

As far as ending tunes go, this one is a very good one to have on hand. “Plans” is a song about being in a poor situation in your life, but trying to be alright with it and hope that you would be good with your life someday. The words of the song highlight financial difficulties, but they also discuss making ambitions to achieve happiness. They were created for a good life, and they will achieve it despite the difficulties they are currently facing. Once again, this is an upbeat song that everyone, especially young adults such as me, can listen to when we’re feeling depressed.

Overall impressions: This album came into my life by chance around a year ago, when I heard the song “Lose It” on a YouTube video and decided to check it out.

You should absolutely give this album a try if you want a more relaxing song with important words that can have an impact on how you feel.

How Oh Wonder broke apart to come together in ’22 Break’

Breakup albums often just give one side of the tale; however, Oh Wonder’s “22 Split” is his way of showing us what it’s like to break up and sharing both viewpoints on the subject. Wow, Oh Wonder is a British alt-pop duo that first gained attention in 2014 with a series of tunes released on SoundCloud. Anthony West and Josephine Vander Gucht were recording and releasing a song per month at the time, culminating in their self-titled first album, which had 15 tracks. Music videos for songs like “Drive” and “Without You” took us on a journey through the highs and lows of relationships and exposed us to their emotive, easy-to-listen-to style of musical storytelling.

During that period, fans found that the couple had fallen in love with each other, and Oh Wonder became a symbol of what it might be like to travel the globe with your best friend and make the most of every moment.

The pair was very open and honest about the purpose and inspiration for the record.

“We were on the verge of breaking up last year, and we made an album about it when we were on the verge of breaking up, which saved us.” “22 Break,” which is just as unconventional as their debut album, was inspired by the couple’s own heartache, and they subsequently tweeted that their effort was “perhaps the first break-up album in history written and recorded with the person you’re splitting up with.” It’s a fresh aspect of Oh Wonder that fans don’t often get to witness, because their social media accounts are frequently filled with pictures of them having a good time on tour, their cozycoffee shop endeavor, and their adorable puppy, Margot.

  • “22 Break” provides listeners with an honest and intimate project about love and sadness, pain and desire, and finding a better way to love one another.
  • The first track on the album, “Baby,” sets the tone for the remainder of the album, which is about finding concerns about oneself in a hypervisual environment that Oh Wonder finds themselves in while coping with the rolling hills that all couples endure in the process.
  • Is it possible that I’m not good enough to be loved by you?
  • It instills a sense of despondency in us and serves as a reminder that failures in relationships are frequently caused by concerns about our own lovability and value.
  • The saxophone, with its sensuous solos and runs, adds a beautiful touch to the album’s overall tone, and its inclusion only serves to emphasize the sad message of each song.
  • The band members talked about how much they missed each other during the album announcement, and songs like “Rollercoaster Baby” demonstrate the need a person has for someone they genuinely love, even when the relationship appears to be on the verge of disintegrating.
  • This music is accompanied by a 40-minute video that depicts the heartbreaking isolation that occurs between two devoted people.
  • The music and film “22 Break” serve as a gentle reminder that it takes two to break a heart in any devoted and loving relationship.
  • More joyful Oh Wonder music is on the way, as the group hinted at during their live announcement, but for now, “22 Split” provides an intimate and sensitive look at what it’s like for the married couple from England to break up and then reunite through music.

Listen to Oh Wonder’s compelling breakup album on repeat for a good weep while you sit down, relax, and let your tears flow.

Donell Jones – O How I Wonder

If sin is your best buddy, I’m talking to you. You’d better change things up before the end comes around, or else. Alternatively, you may dwell in Gehenna, where darkness reigns. More importantly, open your Bibles and study the truth.” Because even if you have a lot of money, you can’t afford to live lavishly. It doesn’t matter who you harm; it doesn’t matter how you achieve what you want. Those youngsters in the hood, sure, they’re dying, and the influences on television and radio are a big part of it.

  • Mother Earth is a sad woman; she has changed.
  • Terrorism nuclear warheads dropped on Baghdad Dropping bombs on Baghdad Global warming If you’re feeling anything like I am, you’re probably wondering if things will ever change.
  • Certainly, this is something that we should take into consideration, When I say “negative,” I’m referring to the fact that you should change your mindset before the end comes around.
  • Better read your bibles and understand the truth.
  • What’s the point of bothering when we’re never going to possess anything?
  • We live in a world where there is no such thing as a rich without a poor.
  • Poor Mother Earth, she’s been messed up.

Bombs dropped on Baghdad in response to global warming Terrorism nuclear warheads If you’re feeling anything like I am, you’re probably wondering if things will ever change.

Certainly, this is something that we should take into consideration, There is a little part of Adam and Eve in everyone of us.

What’s wonderful is that we have the ability to make a decision.

You have to change things up from my neighborhood to your neighborhood and throughout the world because it’s do or die time.

If you’re feeling anything like I am, you’re probably wondering if things will ever change, and if so, how.

Oh Wonder

Oh Wonder began as one of the most well guarded secrets in the United Kingdom and have now amassed over two billion streams, more than a million record sales, and a top ten album under their credit. What amazing accomplishment for two (very talented) persons who started off by uploading one song a month to Soundcloud for a year. The London-based team never expected to become the household names that they are now; they only wanted to exhibit their songwriting ability on the internet, which they did.

  • During our conversation with Oh Wonder, we discussed their lives after three years of touring, the emotional and sonic evolution on their stunning new album, the purpose behind the songs, being public as a couple, and so much more.
  • What do you think the ideas and production are based on and how do they vary from your previous two albums?
  • Rather of writing about characters, like we had done with our previous albums, we wrote a lot about ourselves and how we were feeling after a year at home following three years of nonstop traveling on this new album.
  • What was the source of inspiration for it?
  • That particular phrase, in our opinion, perfectly captures the overall mood of the album.
  • So live it, and take charge of your own destiny.
  • You’ll be embarking on another extensive tour of North America and Europe starting next month.

Yes, we are beyond thrilled to be returning on the road.

Nothing can compare to that one hour on stage, which makes everything else worthwhile.

Also, being able to have a global perspective and a thorough understanding of so many different places and cultures.

Additionally, you recognize that the majority of people – whether they are from Jakarta, Moscow, or Toronto – are all striving for the same thing: love, community, acceptance, and fulfillment, among other things.

We are all experiencing the same highs and lows and yearning for some kind of logic in the thick of it all.

It’s the little things that make a house a home, such as cutlery drawers, not having to live out of a suitcase, and sleeping on a real bed rather than on a moving bus.

It’s quite one-sided and weirdly unfulfilling from the perspective of a human interaction.

What kind of personal journey did you take to get at the composition of these songs?

In order to better understand myself and my thoughts and actions, I’ve been in therapy almost the whole time I’ve been at home.

It is a fuck you to everyone who opposes such compassion and acceptance with the song “Hallelujah.” A fuck you to the guys who have betrayed my confidence and left me with trust difficulties, “I Wish I Never Met You” is a love song.

The song “How It Goes” perfectly encapsulates this.

It’s such a cliche, but it’s also SO RIGHT.

This song was written for us to surprise people sonically, and its content is a good summary of how we’ve been feeling lately — more confident in ourselves.

“I Wish I Never Met You” was a more lively, poppier track to serve as a counterpoint to the other two.

We just went with the flow of how we were feeling!

Approximately how long did it take you to complete this album?

All of it was completed by the conclusion of the summer season.

Which seemed like the longest period of time on the planet, and what a pleasure!

I completely respect your decision to keep your private life private – but what prompted you to become more transparent about them in recent years?

The fact that we kept our relationship private was because we didn’t want to have to answer the usual invasive inquiries such as “what happens when you argue?” (We had only been together for a couple of years at the time.) We were still figuring things out, and after a slew of interviews, we no longer felt any embarrassment or difficulty in asking people to back off.

In addition to your own work, you have composition credits with artists such as Lewis Watson, Maisie Peters, and Gryffin, among others.

Oh How I Wonder lyrics by Donnel Jones – original song full text. Official Oh How I Wonder lyrics, 2021 version

Oh Wonder began as one of the most well guarded secrets in the United Kingdom and have already amassed over two billion streams, more than a million record sales, and a top ten album under their belts in just six years. Nothing short of amazing for two (very talented) guys who started out by submitting one song to Soundcloud every month for a year. Aside from showcasing their songwriting prowess on social media, the London-based team had no intention of becoming the stars that they are today.

  1. After three years of touring, we chatted with Oh Wonder about their new album, the emotional and aural growth of the songs on it, their purpose behind the songs, being public as a couple, and so much more.
  2. The topics and production are based on and differ from your previous two albums, how would you describe them?
  3. Rather of writing about characters, like we had done with our previous LPs, we wrote a lot about ourselves and how we were feeling after a year at home following three years of frantic traveling.
  4. I’m curious about the source of inspiration.
  5. That phrase, in our opinion, perfectly captures the overall mood of the record.
  6. So live it, and take charge of your destiny.
  7. A major tour across North America and Europe is scheduled for you to begin next month.

In fact, we are beyond thrilled to be returning on the road!

Nothing can compare to that one hour on stage, which makes it all worthwhile.

Aside from that, having a global perspective and understanding of so many other countries and cultures is invaluable.

Additionally, you recognize that the majority of people – whether they are from Jakarta, Moscow, or Toronto – are all striving for the same thing: love, community, acceptance, and fulfillment, regardless of where they come from.

We are all experiencing the same highs and lows and yearning for some kind of logic in the thick of it.

Things as simple as cutlery drawers and not having to live out of a suitcase, as well as sleeping in a real bed rather being on a moving bus, are what make home so wonderful.

In terms of human relationships, it’s incredibly one-sided and weirdly unfulfilling on both ends.

To get at the development of these songs, what personal journey have you been on is important to know.

My goal is to gain insight into my own thoughts and behaviors, as well as compassion for those who are experiencing similar difficulties.

A fuck you to the lovers who have betrayed my confidence and left me with trust difficulties, “I Wish I Never Met You.” On the album, songs like “In And Out Of Love” and “Nebraska” tackle our own relationship as a couple, and how one day you’re set on something, and the next you’re not so sure.

  1. Despite the fact that it’s a cliche, it’s 100% accurate.
  2. This song was written for us to surprise people sonically, and its content is a good summary of how we’ve been feeling lately — more confident.
  3. It was written to create a poppier, more uplifting counterpoint to the previous two songs.
  4. Simply said, we went with the flow!
  5. Approximately how long did it take you to put this album together?
  6. By the end of the summer, everything was completed.
  7. What a treat it was to have such a long period of time to myself.
  8. It’s completely understandable why you choose to keep your personal life private, but what prompted you to become more open about them in recent years?

The fact why we kept our relationship private was because we didn’t want to have to answer the inevitable invasive inquiries like “what happens when you fight?” (We had only been together for a couple of years at the time.) We were still figuring things out, and after a slew of interviews, we no longer felt any embarrassment or anxiety about asking people to back off.

You’ve written songs for artists such as Lewis Watson, Maisie Peters, and Gryffin, among others, in addition to your own work.

There are several possibilities…

We’re looking forward to doing a lot more of it in the future, too.

Who knows where we’ll end up after all this strife.

On sometimes, I ponder the question “why?” Could it possibly be that calm from above the clouds?

Who knows where we’ll end up after all this strife.

On sometimes, I ponder the question “why?” Is it possible that it is spiritual in nature?

She is a daywonderwonderwonderwonder to be around.

As I continue to turn all of the pages, I am struck by the following thought: The wonders you worked were truly amazing.

YeI wonder.

Iwonderif A ghetto has been established in the heavens.

Considering where I grew up, I’m curious if A ghetto has been established in the heavens. Iwonderif A ghetto has been established in the heavens. Iwonderif A ghetto has been established in the heavens. What if Heaven had a shantytown of its own? I was up in a family that

Happy New Year, and a hearty welcome to everyone entering the roaring 2020s! However, despite the fact that “Happy” was not composed on, or even around, New Year’s Day, it still manages to convey that invigorating sensation of warmth, enthusiasm, and regeneration that appears to envelop this contemplative transition season. “Happy,” the third single from Oh Wonder’s forthcoming third studio albumNo One Else Can Wear Your Crown (which will be released on February 7, 2020 via Republic Records), follows in the footsteps of previous singles “Hallelujah,” “Better Now,” and “I Wish I Never Met You” in evoking intense, hyperspecific feelings and moments.

Their music and passion remain as approachable as ever, but the narrative are that much more concentrated, intimate, and sensitive as a result of this shift in perspective.

An early high point on an album overflowing with feeling, “Happy” is an intimate affair full of radiant love.

Vander Gucht and West collaborated on the song “Happy,” which was written on the day of his ex-wedding. girlfriend’s In his own words, “I was just feeling pure delight at the time.” It’s great that she’s found someone else since I could never be the person next to her.” “I saw a photo of her in her wedding dress and thought, ‘Wow, what a sensation.'” In his seven-year connection with his Oh Wonder counterpart, West described the spontaneous nature of the songwriting process as a time for him to explore his feelings of delight.

We wrote about it because I was having a strange vibe.” Olga De La Iglesia is a wonder woman.

A somber, solemn moment of introspection, the track develops into a cheerful groove full of lovely strings, evocative piano notes, and a throbbing rhythm section that drives the music upward, forth, and onward.

With a beam of soulful, controlled sunshine, the duo bursts forth in the song’s chorus, as follows:

I never thought I’d be happyto see you with somebody new Never thought I’d be happyto see you do the thingswe do with somebody else ‘Cause now you’re more yourself Oh I never thought I’d be happyto see you with somebody new

There is nothing complicated about the words; they are direct and straight from the heart: they show genuine satisfaction for seeing a former love happier and “more themselves,” acknowledging how they are better off without necessarily demeaning the old flame of “what was.” Oh Wonder’s words motivate us to look for the positive in what would otherwise be sad or difficult times for us; their words serve as inspiration for thinking about more than just ourselves and for seeing the people around us for who they are – not just what they do or how they relate to us – rather than for what they do or how they relate to us.

Spent all my weekends pretending I was fine Just to get you out my mind for an evening I used to wish you would never find the one But it’s good to see you loved Let’s call it even You’re holding someone close Should hurt somehow it don’t I guess that’s how I know I’ve finally let you go

It has been said by Josephine Vander Gucht that Oh Wonder’s most recent songs include some of their most subtle concepts and feelings to date. According to her, “it’s a very unique form of inadequacy, or a very specific type of uncertainty, or a specific type of joy, or feeling glad for someone because they’ve gone on – it’s all very specific and more nuanced.” It’s possible that “Happy” will be Oh Wonder’s penultimate single before the release of No One Else Can Wear Your Crownand the associated “Wear Your Crown” global tour (see tour dates below), and it sees the band doing what they do best: bringing compassion into pop music.

From the perspective of the listener, the song “Happy” portrays the finest form of not just moving on, but also of delight at the prospect of another’s happiness.

Get “Happy” with Oh Wonder, and keep an eye out for the band’s third full-length album, which will be released next month, as well!

So many nights of barely sleeping Wide awake and dreaming I wanted you back It’s clear we’re good without each other Dancing with another It’s better like that
