Later on, Joseph Gelineaumade a significant contribution to the music. Songs created by brothers of the Community in more recent years have been included to the collection.

Recording

The recording sessions took place in May and July of this year. The majority of the chants were recorded at Taizé’s Church of Reconciliation, by a small group of instrumentalists and a choir comprised of young people from various countries who came to the Community for a week to participate in the chanting. Several chants were recorded by brothers of the Community in the Romanesque Church in the village of Taizé, and have since been made available online. Anna Barry was in charge of the recording’s production.

The songs, which are available in a variety of languages, are considered ideal for huge international meetings, according to the Community.

Release history

May and July of 2014 were used for the recording sessions. Several instrumentalists and a choir formed of young people from various nations who spent a week in the Community contributed to the recording of the majority of the chants in Taizé’s Church of Reconciliation. As a physical expression of their solidarity, some of the brothers have moved to live among the most downtrodden and impoverished people on the face of the planet. In 1978, the community launched the “pilgrimage of trust on earth,” which included large gatherings of young people and visits to every continent. Taizé – French Church du Saint-Esprit

Every Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m., Saint Esprit hosts a contemplative prayer session that includes music and liturgy from the Taizé ecumenical community in France, among other things. When a small number of Taizé brothers lived in New York City in the 1970s, this service was performed on a regular basis. It has been hosted at Saint Esprit since 2003. It takes around 45 minutes for each service to be completed. The use of icons and candles creates a welcome and quiet environment. Quiet singing and bible readings prepare the audience for a period of silence and contemplation.

Prayers for the Taizé community are also held on Sunday mornings at Saint Esprit four times a year, and Taizé brothers pay visits to Saint Esprit while they are passing through New York.

The icon of “Jesus and his buddy” is a replica of a sixth-century Egyptian image of Saint Menas, which is also known as the “Icon of Jesus and his friend.” Originally shown in the Louvre museum in Paris, a replica is now on display at the Church of Reconciliation in Taizé where it is used in prayer.

To the people of the United States, it was provided as a gesture of goodwill, and it now acts as a concrete link between the hundreds of church organizations from a wide range of denominations across the country that offer Taizé prayers to their respective local communities.
