” Carly’s Song “(1993) ” Return to Innocence “(1994) ” The Eyes of Truth “(1994)

It’s a song by the German musical group Enigma called “Return to Innocence.” It was released as the lead single from their second studio album, The Cross of Changes, on January 4, 1994, and became a hit (1993). This single became the second most successful international single for the project after ” Sadeness (Part I) “, reaching number one in more than a dozen countries (including Ireland, Norway, Sweden, and Zimbabwe), number three on the UK Singles Chart, and the top five in a number of other countries (including Canada, Germany, and New Zealand), among other achievements.

“Return to Innocence” was the project’s greatest hit in the United States, peaking at number two on theBillboardModern Rock Trackschart, number four on theBillboardHot 100, and number six on theBillboardMainstream Top 40, among other positions.

History

Angel X (Andreas Harde) provides the song’s melodic and talking vocals in English, as well as a brief talking vocal by Sandra (“Death is not the beginning of the end, that’s the return to yourself, the return to innocence”), while an Amis peoplechant (“Elders’ Drinking Song”) is repeated at the beginning of the song. Difang and Igay Duana, from the Amis, were participating in a cultural exchange program in Paris in 1988 when their performance of the song was recorded and later released on CD by the Maison des Cultures du Monde (World Cultures Museum).

It’s also worth noting that the song’s drum rhythm was sampled from theLed Zeppelin song ” When the Levee Breaks “, which was performed by John Bonham.

The song was included in an episode of the television show My So-Called Life that aired in the fall of 1994.

The song gained even more popularity in 1996 when it was included in a television campaign to promote the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta.

Legal dispute

Difang and Igay Duanas filed a lawsuit against Cretu, Virgin Records, and a number of other music firms in March 1998, alleging that their song had been used without their permission without credit. An out-of-court settlement was reached for an unknown sum of money, and all further releases of the song (including royalties) were credited to the Duanas, who were also known as the Kuos in China because of their Chinese name.

The Kuos were an indigenous Taiwanese couple from the Ami tribe who lived in a remote area of the island. In his statement, Cretu claims that he was made to think that the tape was in the public domain and that he did not intend to infringe on the Kuos’ intellectual property rights.

Critical reception

According to Ned Raggett of AllMusic, “Return to Innocence” is “not quite up there with ” Sadeness ” in terms of popular culture in the United States, but it is nearly unavoidable in other parts of the world.” Billboard’s Larry Flick stated that Enigma “resurfaces with a considerably more accessible, yet no less coolpop / hip-hopkicker” than previously. He went on to say, “With its persistent pace, the tune serves as a terrific hook for a song that is jam-packed with strange male chanting and breathy feminine vamping.

  1. Augusto from Cashbox made the following observation: “A new, even more bizarre scenario has been developed by researchers at theVirgin Recordshitmaking laboratory: Enigma as hit song producers!
  2. One’s life’s job is defined as Michael Cretu is a fervent Romanian who is striving to go where no other new age artist has gone before him.
  3. He went on to say, “”Return to Innocence” was, and continues to be, a universally epic film that is instantly identifiable, mostly unintelligible, and never fails to move the viewer.
  4. It’s the same with life.” “A mournful and well-constructed song that contrasts ethnic-sounding emoting and softly spoken lines against a dance beat and a swirl of delicate synth noises,” wrote Alan Jones of Music Week of the track.
  5. It was described as a “melodramatic chant” by John Kilgo of The Network Forty.

Music video

The video for “Return to Innocence,” created by English film, documentary, and music video filmmaker Julien Temple, chronicles a man’s life in reverse, beginning with his death and ending with his baptism as a newborn.

(See also List of Enigma videos: The Cross of Changes for more information.) It was then made available on Enigma’s officialYouTubechannel, which was launched in March 2009. As of October 2021, the video had received more than 113,7 million views on YouTube.

Enigma – Return To Innocence Lyrics Meaning

Anonymous To cast your vote, simply click on a star. Report on the 27th of March, 2012 This song’s message is directed just towards me. I believe it has something to do with how the internet may ruin our perceptions of beauty and purity. A fresh concept such as “things that make me go hhm” comes to mind. As enigma points out, all of this incredibly strong and supporting stuff is just that: rubbish. Laughing, sobbing, love, feeling, and devotion are all examples of human emotion. Be cautious about what you post on the internet since it might all come back to haunt you.

Some enigmas believe that some enigmas are harmful.

comprehend that there is no “correct” way for any single person to feel in a given situation.

People are aware that unpleasant emotions are not self-destructive, but allowing them to smolder and/or spreading them about in a detrimental manner only serves to exacerbate their “problems.” By taking a hard look at at intrinsic fury and monetizing it, you may be contemplative and reflective in your life.

Perhaps enigma was first apprehensive about writing a song or not.

(I made that up- who’s jerry is the one who’s stupid, hehe) However, there are situations when a person is unfamiliar with a certain terrain, such as cyberspace.

Take, for example, my own situation.

It takes a long time to comprehend what is going on in a technical area of the internet, and even then, I believe that some people will never get the gist of any of it because the web people who never fess upare like warmongers who hide, yell, and scream via typing and inflict deep wounds or maim as a result of their activities.

  • As the internet strips away purity and charm, it is important to remain proud and powerful.
  • It/the web site has been compared to the Coliseum in Rome and the Wild, Wild, Wild West of the American West.
  • Protect your brand because you are what you represent.
  • Criminal investigators can take it away at any moment over the course of the investigation.
  • It is beneficial to your CV in life.

  • Don’t jeopardize your future cash earningsvaluenetworth by acting as a stooge for the internet.

Young people type thoughtfully, and your modem should always have a semblance of decency in it. Alternatively, you may find yourself longing for enigma to restore your innocence. Your webprint might be the beginning of the end for you, or it could be the end of the beginning for you.

The Return To Innocence Report

The return to innocence is not simply a notion and a dream, but it is also a realistic objective to strive towards. Every individual has a distinct understanding of innocence, and each one experiences the loss of innocence at a different point in their lives. Innocence, according to the dictionary, is the state of being free from a moral, legal, and/or particular wrong. When something disturbing or emotionally terrible occurs, it is important to remain concealed from the public eye. Since its debut in 1993, Enigma’s song “Return to Innocence” has become a hit tune worldwide.

  • To Enigma, being innocent entails expressing one’s feelings in a childlike manner, as well as having a childlike attitude and viewpoint.
  • Enigma’s song “Return to Innocence” is a call to action for people to reject social preconceptions and not be scared to express genuine feelings.
  • When the song begins, it is performed in the style of a traditional African tribesman or elder, and it is similar to their chants.
  • Despite the fact that the man’s voice is smooth and clear, it employs different syllables in a fast sequence that frequently culminates in a single lengthy note.
  • The picture of a soaring bird or a roaring lion comes to mind, utterly clear and unhindered by any constraints or restrictions.
  • Immediately following the first chorus of the chant, the music begins, with a clear rhythm and a powerful beat.
  • On the first and third beats, there is a deep, bass drum sound that may be heard once.

The instrument utilized is a keyboard, which produces a sound that is quite similar to that of actual percussion.

With the exception of the percussion, extended chords are played on the piano throughout the song, and the chords change with each verse and chorus of the lyrics.

These are weird small noises that contribute to the overall atmosphere of the music.

Just after the chanting, the words are introduced at the same time as the music.

The smoothness and clarity of his voice are also notable; since it is so smooth, it is frequently mistaken for a woman’s voice.

As soon as the first chorus ends, the chant returns, this time louder and more proudly, as if to restate what the vocalist had just stated, only louder and more triumphantly.

Strong and bold, as if it were saying something, it offers advise as if the speaker had just learnt something and was now expressing it to someone else in front of the audience.

“Don’t be scared to be weak, and don’t be too proud to be powerful,” says the first line of the main stanza.

They are the experiences that make up a person’s life.

Then comes the next step, which is “My buddy, all you have to do is look into your heart.

It is his belief that when one looks into one’s heart, one discovers oneself, and that it is at this point that one’s innocence will return.

If you have to weep, then cry it out.

It also states that to believe in destiny is to trust in one’s own future self-actualization.

Then there’s the poem, which is “Don’t worry about what other people think; just go your own way.

It is appropriate for someone to act in a weak or powerful manner since that is who they are.

Throughout these songs, the message is reinforced that one must follow their impulses and that one must be honest about their emotions.

Childhood innocence is something that today’s culture despises and devalues.

Today, students in elementary school are taught about sexuality, whereas 10 years ago, it was not until junior high or high school that a child heard about it.

As time progresses, it appears that each successive generation loses their innocence at a younger age than the one that came before them.

They are even compelled to watch it.

This realization leads to a period of adjustment in which they must learn to cope with the realities of life.

When children’s innocence is taken away from them, they lose trust and hope.

For many youngsters, this is the first time they begin to have a different perspective on the world and themselves.

Eventually, children become teens, who frequently struggle to cope with their emotions.

Teenagers who grow up to be hard adults who don’t express their actual sentiments are more common than not.

Men are taught from an early age that crying is a sign of weakness.

Traditionally, males have been taught that they are not truly men unless they are powerful and determined.

However, when they were boys, they would cry when they fell.

They went about in circles until they were dizzy and lost their balance.

They were not scared to look up to others, and they were terrified of the dark, but they did not believe that their dread was unjustified.

Today’s ideal woman is one who can cook, care for her children, host a dinner party gracefully, and keep down a career.

They are the ones who youngsters run to when they have a sprained ankle.

They were the same girls who had three “boyfriends” in the second grade, who played with dolls and were frequently overbearing, throwing tantrums if they didn’t get their way.

Their innocence stems in the fact that they have always expressed their actual sentiments as children, and that society’s stereotype of what they should be frequently takes precedence over their true feelings.

Taking down the barriers of prejudice in order to see the person on the inside.

As a result, kids will be inspired to look past their anxieties of being rejected by society and will feel confident in their own feelings.

Being genuine to oneself and one’s feelings is very important.

The song “Return to Innocence” by Enigma mixes music and words to convey a message that society should keep its innocence from infancy in order to avoid stereotyping other people.

A human being has emotions and sentiments, but individuals nowadays are instructed to keep their genuine emotions hidden in order to behave in a socially acceptable manner.

It is against one’s own interests to suppress one’s feelings.

The phrases speak of the freedom to express oneself freely and honestly, and how liberating it may be in and of its own right.

In this case, the message is that freedom is the outcome of returning to one’s original state of innocence.
