Boyz II Men sending out ‘Love’ – CNN.com
With a fresh collection of cover songs, Boyz II Men returns for a second time with “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson serving as producer. THE STORY’S KEY POINTS
- Boyz II Men have released their second album of cover tracks, “Love,” which has the R&B trio singing love songs from a variety of musicians. The group will be celebrating its 20th anniversary in the music industry soon. As part of their celebration, they plan to release two albums, meet together with past members, and tour the country.
(CNN)- There’s no denying that Boyz II Men are well-versed in the art of falling in love. It was even the title of their new album, which was given to them by the legendary R&B group. As their second cover album, “Love” also marks their second collaboration with “American Idol” judge Randy Jackson, who previously worked with them on the critically acclaimed “Motown: A Journey Through Hitsville USA.” They perform a range of love songs, including Journey’s “Open Arms,” the Goo Glow Dolls’ “Iris,” and the Beatles’ “In My Life,” among others.
CNN: Why did you choose the title “Love” for the album?
- Every record we’ve ever released has had a symbol of love in some form.
- Boyz II Men has been around for over two decades, according to CNN.
- Musician Nate Morris explains that a lot of people don’t understand how music changes depending on the day and time of day.
- We feel that the soul, the understanding, and the comprehension of genuine music have all but vanished.
- Because of the auto-tune and all of the other pro tools available, we are starting to drift away from it again.
- CNN: There don’t appear to be any R&B groups out there right now that are representing in the same way that Boyz II Men has in the past.
- Wanya: It’s difficult to find groups to hang out with.
Music brought us together as a group in our case.
Even before we became romantically involved, we adored the way we sounded together.
Nate: We have obviously progressed in a number of different ways.
We are firm believers in the importance of studying and attempting to gather as much insight as we possibly can.
CNN: What is the most important lesson you and your partner have learnt in your careers as entertainers?
It’s fine to change with the times, but maintain your integrity as a person, not just because of who you are, but also because of who your followers have fallen in love with you.
After all, you can’t get those people back after you’ve lost them.
“I Can’t Make You Love Me,” originally performed by Bonnie Rait, is the first track that Wanya is working on promoting.
Moreover, with our sound, we gave it a R B flavoring.
CNN:Does it seem tough to cover songs that are so well-known and have achieved such widespread popularity?
It is estimated that millions of people have listened to these tunes and have fallen in love with the song when it was first played.
We make an effort to align our version with how we believe the song should be performed without deviating too far from the firm concrete melodic foundation.
It’s similar to someone performing “End of the Road.” If they deviate so much from what the public is accustomed to, the supporters would naturally question, “Why did they do that?” CNN: Your music has established the mood for a large number of your followers.
Wanya: I like Marvin Gaye, the Isley Brothers, and anything that has a pleasant feel to it.
Everyone’s feelings about love are unique, as I always tell people who ask me about it.
CNN: Do you have any plans for a new album of original material in the near future?
Nate:We are planning to release a Boyz II Men 20th anniversary album, which we hope will be a double CD, in the late summer or early fall of next year. A slim chance exists that our fourth member of the group will be able to make it back for that album.
Boyz II Men Biography
Boyz II Men is the most commercially successful R & B group of all time, having sold over 100 million albums worldwide. It is estimated that they have sold millions of albums and generated three of the longest-running No. 1 hit songs in the history of music. In addition to their immaculate blend of four-part harmonies, the pioneering R B trio is still remembered for their effect on the music industry today.
Boyz II Men were created in 1988 in the Philadelphia High School for Creative and Performing Arts. They are currently based in Los Angeles. The organization, which was initially known as Unique Attraction, was created by Nathan Morris and Marc Nelson. As a result of graduation, other members came and left, but Morris and Nelson soon met Wanya Morris, Shawn Stockman, and Michael McCary, and the group was able to maintain its stability. They took inspiration from the successful R&B group New Edition and called themselves Boyz II Men after the song “Boys to Men” from that group’s album Boys to Men.
They performed an a cappella version of the New Edition song “Can You Stand the Rain” for the audience.
According to reports, Marc Nelson departed the group shortly after they began working on their debut album, purportedly owing to differences in personalities.
Bivins worked with Boyz II Men on their debut album, Cooley High Harmony, which was released on Motown Records in 1991. Despite the fact that Bell Biv DeVoe’s music was known for its new jack swing sound, Boyz II Men’s classic, soulful vocals brought something new to the table, which was subsequently labeled “hip hop doo wop” by the press. Boyz II Men has always featured all of its members equally as main vocals, in contrast to the traditional R&B group structure of a single lead singer/frontman and a number of nameless backing singers.
A great success, Cooleyhighharmony’s album reached No.
The tracks “Motownphilly” and “It’s So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday” went on to become No.
The next year, they were invited to open for MC Hammer’s 2 Legit 2 Quit tour, which they did successfully.
Following their debut, they abandoned the new jack swing approach in order to concentrate on developing a more mature, pop-inflected musical style. It was in 1992 that they launched the massively hit single ” End of the Road “. The song enjoyed a record-breaking 13 weeks at the top of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, making it the year’s most successful single of all time. Boyz II Men have gone from being R&B up-and-comers to becoming mainstream superstars in a blink of an eye. In 1994, they releasedII, which went on to sell more than 12 million copies in the United States, making it one of the best-selling albums of the ensuing decade.
As a result of the No. 1 smash song “I’ll Make Love to You,” they were nominated for two Grammy Awards: Best R&B Album and Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals, respectively.

Boyz II Men seized full responsibility of the composition and production for their next album, Nathan Michael Shawn Wanya, which came out in 2000. Despite the fact that it received far better reviews than Evolution, it was clear that the group’s popularity was on the decrease. They signed with Arista Records in 2002 and released their debut album, Full Circle, the following year. As a result of his scoliosis, Michael McCary was unable to participate in many of the group’s dance performances, and he decided to leave the group in 2003.
It was exclusively accessible on the company’s website.
Both albums were compilations of cover songs.
Boyz II Men released the album Twentyin 2011, which was titled after the band’s 20 years in the music industry. The album is divided over two discs, with 13 original compositions and eight rerecorded oldies. Their 2013 tour with New Kids on the Block and 98 Degrees was announced, as was a residency at the Mirage HotelCasino in Las Vegas, which they began in 2014. In 2014, they released their eleventh studio album, Collide.
Bringing R & B back into the mainstream, where it had been absent since the ’70s, Boyz II Men was a key player in this process. They have the distinction of being the best-selling R&B group of all time, having sold an astounding 60 million records worldwide. Their repertoire of immensely hit songs, which are noted for their rich, silky harmonies and timelessly relevant subject matter, has been growing for more than two decades.

Drop The Mic (Ft. Boyz II Men & Rascal Flatts) – Rascal Flatts vs. Boyz II Men
They’re second cousins, which makes things complex since if they’re fans of Rascal Flatts, it’s likely that they’re dating each other as well. Your song “What Hurts the Most” was a true game-changer for you. However, it is listening to you that causes the most pain. I’ll be honest with you, and I’m not trying to be impolite. Once upon a time you sang scales; today you tip them as well. It took me a second to realize, but take a look at your staff. What is this, Fox News? Three elderly white dudes, what is this?
- How dare we, gentlemen?
- “You’re So Difficult to Say Goodbye” is a breathtakingly lovely song.
- Also, I’d want you to consider some food for thought that I’ve provided.
- And now you’ve got a Vegas show, which I think is hilarious.
- We sold 60 million albums, which is a significant number of punchlines.
- Meltin was the name of your second, and your faces obliged.
- Your frosted tips give the impression of being a hillbilly.
Likewise, if I believed it would drag you two into disrepute, I would do it.
Well, if you want to call me Guy Fieri, that’s ridiculous because, bitch, you look like you’ve had all of Philadelphia’s cheesesteaks.
So here are some guys who we used to like who have now gone bald,’ says one.
Keep up the good effort, lads; perhaps next year, Jodeci will be able to join in.
All 60 million albums were sold, but the majority were cassettes.
After that, your life came to a grinding halt and ran out of gas.

Despite the fact that you all appear to be a group of Republican magicians, Proceed to “Make America Great Again,” my friend.
Is it confusing for people to know that you have a residency in Las Vegas?
The song “One Sweet Day” is a fiyah-inducing hit.
Your lights shone best in the 1990s, and I remember those days well.
You can see that you are outmatched when you go toe-to-toe with someone.
Finally, we’ve reached the end of the road. Still, I can’t seem to let go (no, no, no, no, no, no) It’s out of the ordinary. Hang on, let’s just get this over with- oh oh, hold on, let’s just get this over with I just want to know what it’s like to have a hit song on the radio.
Boyz II Men’s Shawn Stockman Reveals the Group’s ‘Pretty Corny’ Original Name: It Was ‘So Gross’
Boyz II Men held the record for the most consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for 23 years — but the four-time Grammy-winning group came close to going down in history with a “pretty cheesy” moniker in the process. PEOPLE magazine quotes founder member Shawn Stockman, 48, as saying, “It all started when we heard the song ‘Boys to Men’ by New Edition on the radio.” “Nate and I were discussing on the phone about changing our names since we both agreed that the one we had was terrible.” In the beginning, the group went by the name Unique Attraction, but a teenager Stockman realized he needed to come up with a more appropriate moniker.

- “‘Yo, that should be the name of our band,’ I thought.
- Morris, the band’s other member, wasn’t thrilled with the new title at first, “but he couldn’t come up with anything better, so we stayed with it.” “Thank God for the song that came on.

- “It was a name that screamed Philadelphia.
It was corny, but that was the mood at the time.” Boyz II Men’s career truly did become a concept — the success story of Philadelphia youngsters Stockman, Morris, 49, Wanya Morris, 47 (who is not related to Stockman), and their former bandmate Michael McCary, 49, who left the group in 2003 — and they were able to do so because of the support of their fans.

Through our music, we were able to communicate.” While Boyz II Men had gained widespread recognition by 1991, it was not until they sang the national anthem at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta that Stockman recognized they had truly reached stardom in his own eyes.
The lights and camera flashes were turned on at the same time.
This was a watershed event for me, and it made me think, ‘Wow, this is big.’ Another noteworthy occasion for Stockman was when they performed in the halftime show of the Super Bowl XXXII in New Orleans.
There aren’t many things that are more significant than that.

- ‘Relax, and be patient.
- Maintain your individuality while moving in a natural manner, and everything will turn out OK.'” And everything worked out well in the end.

- He replies, “I’m not going to lie, I’m not going to lie.” “All I want is that everyone remains safe and that they continue to do the right thing.
PEOPLE magazine quotes Stockman as saying, “Both grapes must blend properly or be in discord, hence the name.” This song is associated with our music and what we have represented as brothers, family, friends and members of the fraternity, which is romance, togetherness and closeness,” says the singer.
Boyz II Men will undoubtedly bring their distinctive style to their Valentine’s Day concert on Sunday, which will begin at 8 p.m. EST on Twitch and will also be broadcast on DoorDash and Shake Shack’s respective Instagram and Facebook Live pages.

Despite the fact that we have worked hard to produce music that listeners will appreciate for years to come, we never imagined that songs like I’ll Make Love To You and End of the Road would become “smash hits.” We’re really pleased that our fans enjoyed the song as much as we did and helped them to achieve such great success.
- You are all quite enthusiastic about giving back.
- We feel extremely fortunate to have what we have, and we each want to give back in our own way.

The third season of Stranger Things launched on Netflix, and this song made its debut on TikTok at the same time. Millennials and Generation Xers must have been taken aback by the song’s resurgence, which has amassed over 427k videos on the TikTok app.
They were most likely experiencing sentiments of nostalgia for their earlier years, whilst those of Generation Z were completely unaware of its previous fame. Not only does TikTok help new songs become popular, but it also helps classic hits have a second life.

‘Shake Dat’by Loui (feat. Lil Jay)

Loui and Lil Jay are two performers that are still relatively unknown. Loui has 60k monthly Spotify listeners with just 5 songs, whilst Lil Jay has 7,000 monthly Spotify listeners with only 1 song. It’s no surprise that the majority of the over 10,000 TikToks released incorporate the ‘Shake Dat’ dance, which was invented by famed TikTokerKatja Glieson. Katja has over 6.6 million followers on TikTok and creates comedy and dancing videos that include music from well-known singers as well as songs from up-and-coming artists.
‘Candy’by Doja Cat
Following the success of a recent dance competition to the song on TikTok, Doja Cat’s 2018 song ‘Candy’ has gained widespread attention on the platform in 2019. To far, over 4.6 million TikToks have been posted, with majority of the videos containing the ‘Candy’ dance. TikToks containing ‘Candy’ are diverse, ranging from serious dances to funny ones, as well as Tiktokers that took the competition seriously. Another example of how TikTok is assisting up-and-coming artists like Doja Cat in becoming more commercially successful is the fact that the rapper and singer’s second studio album Hot Pink debuted in the top 20 of the Billboard charts in November of this year, demonstrating how the app is assisting emerging artists.
‘All Time Low’by Jon Bellion
