O Death – Wikipedia
” O Death “, also known as ” O, Death “, ” Oh Death “, and ” Conversations with Death “, is a classic Appalachian folk song that is classified as number 4933 in the Roud Folk Song Index. It is sung by those who have had conversations with death. However, although the song is commonly assigned to the musician and Baptist preacher Lloyd Chandler, it was most likely borrowed from or adapted from folk tunes that previously existed in the region.
In the original version, which was performed by Lloyd Chandler and members of the Wallin family, it was as follows: Oh, what is this that I am unable to see? With frigid fingers, he grabs hold of me. Oh, I am Death, and no one can surpass me. I am the one who opens the gates of heaven and hell. Dock Boggs, Nimrod Workman, Ralph Stanley, and others played a modified version of this song with a chorus and a new tune, which is as follows: Death, how I dread you. Death, take a deep breath. Will you be so kind as to put me off until next year?

The first line of the poem reads: Death/ O, sinner. I’ve come as a result of a divine order, and I’m here to summon thee. According to the Journal of Folklore Research, the song “O, Death” is a parody of Lloyd Chandler’s song “A Conversation with Death,” which Chandler played in the 1920s while preaching in Appalachia, according to their findings in 2004. Barbara Chandler, Chandler’s daughter-in-law, claimed that the song “O, Death” was based on Chandler’s composition. Chandler, on the other hand, appears to have acquired the music from a different source or at the very least based it on an older version.

‘DoomedStoned’ makes its debut. As a child of the 1980s, I grew up watching The A-Team. I’m sure my parents didn’t mean it that way, but the exploits of George Peppard, Dirk Benedict, Dwight Schultz, and Mr. T, otherwise known as the crack commando team of Hannibal Smith, Templeton “Face” Peck, “Howling Mad” Murdock, and B.A. Baracus, were always something I aspired to. My favorite moment in every episode is when the gang finds themselves trapped in an unusual storage room and must improvise with the materials at hand to devise some ingenious device to break free and save the day, at which point Hannibal would smile and mutter, “I love it when a plan comes together!” while holding a big ol’ cigar between his teeth.

Because I’m insatiably inquisitive about the creative process that results in records like these, I urged for further information from the band.
The guitars were cranked to 11 and the crap was blaring.
The first day, we kept track of everything from 10 at night to around 5 in the morning.” Wow, that’s a hot damn!
By the second listen, I was completely immersed in positive energy – I mean, I was actually experiencing it.
My confidence in the record is so high that I asked the band if we may share one of the tracks with you guys in the lead-up to the album’s release on vinyl through King Volume Records and on cassette through Dune Altar on January 10th (both of which you canpre-order here).
Here’s the first track from the album, “Pessimist,” which DoomedStoned is thrilled to be able to share with the world this week.

DEATHCHANT has been referred to as psychedelic rock, proto-metal, doom, stoner metal, noise-punk, hard rock, and everything in between, but if you ask them, they simply describe their music as “rock & roll with psychedelic elements.” The band is propelled by Lemieux’s somber aesthetic and characteristic psychedelic guitar atmospherics, which alternate between tranquil, meditative, eastern-tinged themes of togetherness and all-out battle screams with an underlying lesson of love and peace-through-violence.
With a sound that is loud, huge, and as melodious as a sonic onslaught of this scale can be, DEATHCHANT reverberates across the darkest side of proto-metal and hard rock.
The band’s self-titled debut was composed by Lemieux, mixed by Lemieux and Stephen Schroeder, and engineered and mastered by Schroeder, who also produced the album.

After the release of Tularosa in 1996, Michael McGarrity decided to devote his time entirely to writing. He has written a number of novels that have achieved national acclaim. He possesses a bachelor’s degree in psychology with honors as well as a master’s degree in clinical social work. During his undergraduate studies at the University of New Mexico, he was awarded a Ford Foundation Scholarship.
His twenty-five-year career in criminal justice included the development of treatment programs for drug offenders, supervision of outreach services for at-risk juveniles, and the re-establishment of mental health services for the Department of Corrections following the infamous 1980 riot at the New Mexico Penitentiary.
His other employment experience includes serving as a course instructor at the New Mexico Law Enforcement Academy, working as a caseworker and investigator for the Public Defender’s District Office, and conducting investigations for several state government agencies.
In 2004, he was awarded the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts – Literature by the state of New Mexico.
As a result of his efforts, the Hillerman-McGarrity Creative Writing Scholarship at the University of New Mexico, the Richard Bradford Memorial Creative Writing Scholarship at the Santa Fe Community College, and the N.
Scott Momaday Creative Writing Scholarship at the Institute of American Indian Arts have all been established or enhanced. He and his wife Emily Beth now reside in Santa Fe, New Mexico (Mimi).
